SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom was a popular 3D platformer -play emulator here– for home consoles back in 2003, but have you played the Gameboy Advance port of the game? While the plot remains largely the same, the gameplay varies quite a bit between versions. The adventure once again takes place across five worlds, with the final showdown taking place between SpongeBob and the Dutchman himself (spoilers!). Indeed, each level can only be completed once the player has found all 10 treasures and doubloons within that area.
Releasing a year later in 2002, SpongeBob SquarePants: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman is a fun pirate-themed romp that has SpongeBob collecting treasure for the mysterious Dutchman. Still a joy to play today, SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge should be near the top of anyone’s list who wants to play some retro SpongeBob goodness. The adventure takes place across five different worlds: Bikini Bottom, The Centre of the Earth, Prehistoric Bikini Bottom, Rock Bottom, and Industrial.
The gameplay is a 2D platformer that does a beautiful job capturing the colours and character of this vibrant underwater world in the sprite work. SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge is the first SpongeBob game to be released on the Gameboy Advance and follows the story of SpongeBob trying to find the perfect birthday present for Patrick.
